The Casio EXILIM Pro EX-P505 is without doubt the company's flagship digital camera announcement for the show, marking the company's first footsteps into the "SLR-style" digital camera market. A five megapixel CCD based model with 5x optical zoom lens and 2.0" swivelling TFT LCD viewfinder, the P505 offers no optical or electronic viewfinders. The camera really looks the part, particularly with the large pop-up flash raised high above the lens barrel - but it will be interesting to see how the camera fares against rivals that offer an electronic viewfinder to reduce battery consumption, or offer better visibility in strong sunlight.

Two other announcements from the company are more traditional point and shoot models. The Exilim ZOOM EX-750 offers a 7.2 megapixel CCD, 3x optical zoom, 2.5" LCD and optical viewfinder. The Exilim ZOOM EX-Z57 is similar to the past EX-Z50 and EX-Z55 models, but with a slightly larger CCD.

Past models announced at the Consumer Electronic Show last month, or towards the end of last year, are also on display. These include the EX-P700, EX-S100, EX-Z50, EX-Z55, and QV-R62 digital cameras. Of these, the EX-S100 is particularly notable as the first ever digital camera to include a lens manufactured from transparent polycrystalline ceramic material, rather than the more common glass and plastic lenses found in other cameras.
